Dear Friends in Christ,

Thank you for your prayers while I was on retreat last week.   The opportunity to be in silence for 8-days was greatly appreciated and allowed me to spend quality time with God.  Some have asked me how I spent my days.   Besides Mass and a brief conversation each day with a Spiritual Director, I enjoyed taking a walk around the lake at Mundelein Seminary although it was a little cooler than I expected.  Next October I will be sure to bring more than just a light jacket!  But the majority of the day was a true gift to be free to spend time with God in prayer.  In the midst of our scheduled lives, we don’t often ‘retreat’ to be alone with God who created us and gives us life.  I am sure that He appreciates our attention when we speak to Him in the stillness of our hearts.

Speaking of retreats, I would like to extend to an invitation to everyone to participate in a parish-wide retreat based on the beautiful spiritual guide, 33 Days to Morning Glory.  More information can be found in this bulletin.  This will give us the ability to ‘meet each day in our prayers’ (hmmm…. I think I have heard that before!).  At the end of the 33 days on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, we will offer the opportunity to make a personal consecration to the Blessed Mother.  Will you say ‘yes’ to this invitation?

The 2014 Fall Festival was just two weeks ago and has left us with wonderful memories!  Once the expenses have been accounted for I will be able to provide you with a net amount and communicate to you the charities that will benefit from your incredible sharing of time, talent and treasure.  Thank you so much for your support.

When you come before the Lord this week, please remember myself, the other Priests, Religious Sisters and Staff of our parish in your prayers.  Know that we will lift you and your intentions to the Lord.  We may not see each other each day but may we meet each day in our prayers!

In Christ,

Very Rev. Stephen D. Parkes, V.F.
