Dear Friends in Christ,

As we approach the celebration of Thanksgiving this week, I would like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation for your selfless stewardship of time, talent and treasure. We have been called together in this time and in this place to deepen our relationship with God and one another. Thank you for being part of the journey! I also ask that we take time during this holiday to pray for those who are most in need… spiritually and materially. I hope that you enjoy a blessed Thanksgivin.

If you are traveling, may you have be afforded safety and protection and know that we look forward to your arrival back home. As I travel to be with my brothers and family in southern Maryland for a few days, be assured of my prayers and acknowledgement of your kindness.

This past Tuesday, a friend of mine who is a Pastor at a parish in southwest Florida stopped by for a visit. As we walked around our campus he commented on the beautiful grounds and facilities, but was especially impressed with the various activities and life that was present in every building we entered. I echo his enthusiasm and attribute his observation to the incredible dedication that you- the parish family of Annunciation Catholic Church- embrace and live as disciples. Our Mission invites us to have hearts that are burning to know, love and serve God by loving and serving others. Your prayers, support and generosity are a true blessing and give life to these words.

At the Vigil Mass this weekend, we are welcoming those who have been studying the Catholic faith and are joining us in Full Communion with the Catholic Church. We are also celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation for adults. It is with great joy that we welcome these individuals as fully initiated Catholics, having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Do you know anyone who has expressed interest in our faith or is searching for a deeper relationship with God and the Church? A personal invitation is the best encouragement and witness. For more information on the journey of Christian Initiation please call the Parish Office.

When you come before the Lord this week, please whisper my name and the names of the other Priests and Religious Sisters who serve our parish family. Know that we will remember to lift in prayer you, your loved ones and your intentions. We may not see each other each day, but may we meet each day in our prayers!

In Christ,
Very Rev. Stephen D. Parkes, V.F.
