Dear Friends in Christ,
Summer is definitely upon us! The heat and humidity are on the rise and I notice a slower pace overall since school is not in session. I see the month of July as a quiet time on our parish campus. It is good to give even the buildings some break from heavy activity since many of our parishioners are out of town and not able to participate in nightly meetings, functions, etc. I hope that you will take some time to rest during this quieter time. Remember, even Jesus took a rest…
Then he made the disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When it was evening he was there alone. (Matthew 14:22-23)
As we celebrate the Fourth of July this week, I hope it is a chance for us to give thanks for the vision of our Forefathers in creating our country which includes the gift of religious freedom. Please take time to pray for the leaders and future leaders of our country… that they embrace the values and spirit of the architects of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
I would like to thank all who have planned and participated in some of our recent parish sponsored events including the Parish Picnic, Vacation Bible School and the Senior Luau. A great time was had by all!
When you come before the Lord this week, please keep me as well as all of our Priests and Religious Sisters in your prayers. Know that we will pray for you, your loved ones and your intentions. We may not see each other each day but may we meet each day in our prayers.
In Christ,
Very Rev. Stephen D. Parkes, V.F
Pastor
