Dear Friends in Christ,

On this Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) the Gospel proclaimed is the familiar story of the Good Samaritan.  As followers of Christ, we are called upon to help each other, no matter what the differences are between us.  Actually, as human beings we have more in common with each other than we do differences.  How beautiful it is for us to respect the dignity of human life by caring for one another, especially for the stranger!  This past week, Pope Francis visited the island of Lampedusa, which is a gateway for immigrants into Europe.  Further in this bulletin is a summary of his inspiring words on this historic visit.  Please pray that our country can always provide a safe and welcoming haven for those who come to our shores.

Next weekend you are invited to embrace the message of today’s Gospel by participating in our Food Drive by making a donation of groceries (checklist on the cover of the bulletin) or of financial resources.  You may never meet the person who receives your donation, but please be assured of their gratitude.  The Food Outreach Ministry is just one way that our parish family is striving to live Our Mission to have hearts that are burning to know, love and serve God by loving and serving others.  Thank you for sharing Christ’s love!

When you come before the Lord this week, please pray for me and for the Priests and Religious Sisters who serve our community.  Know that we will pray for you, your loved ones and your intentions.  May we meet each day in our prayers!

In Christ,

Very Rev. Stephen D. Parkes, V.F.
