Dear Friends in Christ,

I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the children of our parish who are receiving the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time.  Between this weekend and next, 189 children will receive their First Eucharist.  Do you remember when you received your First Eucharist?   As we watch these young people approach the table of the Lord with a sense of mystery and expectation, it is a reminder to all of us that we are partaking in the beautiful gift that Jesus gave to us at the Last Supper…. His Real Presence!  I hope that every time we receive Holy Communion we do so as if it were our first time, as if it were our last time, and as if it were our only time!  I especially extend a warm welcome to the family and friends of our First Eucharist candidates.  Thank you for sharing in the joy of this special day, and for providing a solid foundation and example of faith for the children.

Last weekend I spoke about our call to discern the gifts and talents that God has poured into us.  If you did not receive the booklet, Stewardship In Action, they are available in the Narthex, Sacristy or Parish Office.  Know that I appreciate your taking time to reflect upon the questions provided and for completing the information on the back cover.  There are many opportunities for you and your family to share your talents in our parish community and beyond.  I am especially excited about Gabriel’s Helpers, which is further explained in the booklet.  This group is a great way to partake in the life of our parish without making a long term commitment.  Please read more about Gabriel’s Helpers in the booklet or on our Stewardship Page on our website.  Thank you to all who make our parish campus an active, welcoming and Spirit-filled place.

As you come before the Lord this week, please pray for me and for the Priests that serve our community…. pray that we may be inspired to act in the example of the Good Shepherd.  Know that we will pray for you, your loved ones and your intentions.  We may not see one another each day but may we meet each day in our prayers!

In Christ,

Very Rev. Stephen D. Parkes, V.F.
