We welcome our young people in the Parish to become actively involved in our liturgies. One of the first ways a young person can become involved is through the Altar Server Ministry. Altar Servers must be entering the 6th grade and their family needs to be registered members of the Parish. Altar Servers work in teams of six students per Mass. We rely on them to set the Altar, to help receive the gifts and to set an example of prayerful reverence during the liturgy. Being a part of the Altar Server Ministry is a commitment – students are scheduled at least once every bi-monthly schedule.
Training sessions will last for 1.5 hours. A parent must accompany a student into the Church and plan to stay for a 15 minute meeting to review guidelines and scheduling procedures. Parents do not need to stay for the entire training, but a parent must come back into the Church to pick up their student when the training has ended. Training sessions are limited to 6 students per session.
Altar Server Captains must be going into 9th grade and must be willing to be a team leader, guiding the younger students in carrying out their responsibilities. Captain training sessions will last about an hour. Again, a parent should accompany their student into the Church and then return to pick them up in the Church. Trainings will accommodate 8 students.
